Wat Pho

The Wat Pho temple is one of Bangkok’s most popular tourist attractions, and among foreigners it is also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

It’s right next to the Grand Palace, which is one of the reasons why almost every visitor to the city also comes here. The size of the temple is impressing too: around 80000 square meters, and there are more than 1000 Buddha statues found on the compound. The most impressive of them all is without a doubt the Reclining Buddha (Phra Buddhasaiyas, Thai พระพุทธไสยาสน์).

The Wat Pho temple is divided into two compounds, and most visitors just get to see the Northern compound where the Reclining Buddha and other impressive temple structures are located. The Southern compound is where monks live and study.

The official name of the temple is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan (Thai: วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร)
